When you get divorced you need detailed professional legal advice from an expert solicitor. Sensible people don't risk costly mistakes by trying to do it yourself from some forms they have downloaded from the internet.

But ask most solicitors how much their legal fees are likely to be to arrange your divorce and they won't be able to tell you. They may quote a figure of "around £750" and possibly £2,000 to £10,000 for arranging the financial settlement but the actual figure will remain a mystery until the bill hits your doormat.

At file4divorce.co.uk we offer a fixed-fee service with guidance throughout by an expert divorce lawyer who will put your interests first and guide you to the best settlement of financial and family arrangements. Contested or uncontested, amicable or antagonistic we will deal with your case appropriately to your interests and you will always know what you will pay.

Pricing structure - divorce

If you just need some general guidance you should first check out out top divorce 25 Q&As and if we don't have the answer you are looking for, ask a divorce question. The service is confidential and free. We generally answer questions in one business day.

If you need more detailed and personal advice on divorce matters beyond the scope of the above service we offer a 30 minute initial telephone call with an expert solicitor. The call will be made by appointment at a time convenient to you and the solicitor will have been fully briefed beforehand about your case. Email notes on advice given in the call will be sent after the call has taken place. The call costs £50+vat. If you go on to instruct us to act for you in your divorce, this fee will be deducted from your bill.

We will conduct an undefended divorce for £400+vat to the Petitioner. If you are the Respondent in an undefended divorce then our fixed-fee cost to protect your interests is £250+vat.

Pricing structure - Financial Settlement (Ancillary Relief)

We aim to secure your financial settlement at the lowest possible cost to you.

Should you and your ex have agreed financial matters and are both fully aware of each others financial positions then we will draft a Clean Break Order to make the deal watertight for £250+Vat.

If some negotiation is required then we have a four-stage fee scale. It is possible to start at the lowest level and move through the fee scale only as necessary if your break-up is messier than you had anticipated.

All our financial settlements

Financial Settlement - Level 1

(Fixed fee of £500+vat).
Solicitors Opinion – This service is aimed at separating couples who aim to reach an agreement and Consent Order with limited negotiation and correspondence. Both parties must be willing and able to disclose full details of their means. The fee is payable even if agreement cannot be reached.

Financial Settlement - Level 2

(Fixed fee of £1200+vat, less cost of level 1 if previously paid)
Agreement and Consent Order after financial information gathering and negotiation with third party. This process is in line with the Law Society pre-action protocol with emphasis upon trying to resolve the issues wherever possible without the need to resort to Court proceedings. We reserve the right to withdraw from negotiation and proceed to next Level if negotiation fails to promote a settlement within a reasonable period of time.

Financial Settlement - Level 3

(Fixed fee of £2500+vat, less cost of level 1 if previously paid)
Issue of proceedings, includes preparation of application to court and all necessary paperwork to include complex financial disclosure, on-going negotiation and preparation for a possible two hearings, First Appointment and Financial Dispute Resolution Hearing. It does not include representation at any hearing. The emphasise again throughout the course of proceedings is to attempt to reach an agreement to be incorporated into a Consent Order without the need for the Court to impose an Order.

Financial Settlement - Level 4

(Fixed fee of £800)
All steps up to Final Hearing to include continuing negotiation to try and promote a settlement and in the alternative preparation for Final Hearing. Representation at the Final Hearing excluded.
