Can I stop my wife from using my surname once we are divorced?
My wife and I are in the process of getting divorced but she wants to retain her married name even when the Decree Absolute comes through. Is she able to do this legally? My thought is if I'm not good enough to be her husband she's not good enough to have my name but can I prevent her legally using my name?
Your wife is entitled to be known by whichever name she chooses. It is not possible to prevent her from using her married name. If it is a real concern for you, it may be possible to reach an agreement on this through your lawyers but there is no legal mechanism for preventing her continuing with her marital surname.
