I married my South African husband ten years ago and we separated eighteen months later and lost touch. How can I find out if we are still married?
I'm British, my husband is South African, and we married in England ten years ago. We separated about eighteen months later and he has since returned to South Africa. I have also been travelling and have not spent much time in the UK until recently. I need to find out if we are still married and I am having trouble finding this information and would appreciate any advice.
If divorce proceedings were issued in the UK, you can do a search in the Index of Decrees Absolute held at the Principal Registry of the Family Division for a small fee. If a divorce was instigated in South Africa, we would be unable to help and suggest you try to find a website that relates to the South African legal system.
