We were married in Zimbabwe but now live in the UK. Can I file for divorce here in the UK?
I would like to know if I can file for a divorce here in the UK when we were married in Zimbabwe. My husband and I are based here in the UK. We have been separated for over a year now. We are on a five year work permit. I would like to divorce him on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour as he has been violent and abusive towards me.
Yes you can file for divorce in the UK if you have been habitually resident here for 12 months. It also sounds as though you can rely on unreasonable behaviour as the cause of the marriage breakdown. Please e-mail if you would like us to refer you to a firm of Solicitors who offer a fixed price divorce service. For just £400 + VAT, Court fees and disbursements, they will manage your divorce from beginning to end.
